Terms of service

These terms are an agreement between you and Caste Systems LLC (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using CASTE you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.

Who can use CASTE

You must be at least 16 and able to form a binding contract. One account per person. Accounts are created through a supported social sign-in or by email.

The assessment

Every account takes a timed figural reasoning assessment once, at sign-up. There are no retakes, and leaving the page or running out of time does not reset it. You agree not to use another person, a second account, a recording, or any automated tool to complete it, and not to publish or circulate its contents.

While the assessment is open we record how long you take on each item and whether you leave the window, hide the tab, exit fullscreen, or press a screenshot key. If we conclude on reasonable grounds that an attempt was not taken honestly, we may void the result, re-place or lock the account, or close it.

Placement

Your account is placed into one of four tiers. Placement decides what appears in your feed and which accounts can see you. Your first placement comes from the assessment alone; from then on it is recalculated weekly from a composite of the assessment, signals from any connected accounts, and your activity on CASTE. The weighting is not published, placement is not shown to you, and it can move up or down. Accounts entering or leaving the highest tier receive a single notice; no other movement is announced.

Placement is not a measure of you. It is the output of a short test taken once, under time pressure, in whatever conditions you happened to be in, combined with popularity signals. We make no claim that it is accurate, meaningful, or fit for any purpose, and it says nothing about your ability, character, or worth. You must not use CASTE, or anything derived from it, to make or inform decisions about any person's employment, credit, housing, insurance, education, or immigration status. Doing so is a breach of these terms.

Stock picks

CASTE includes a within-tier game in which you may select one publicly-traded symbol or a listed crypto-asset at a time. It is judged only on the symbol's return relative to a benchmark over a fixed window, and the outcome contributes to your placement. This is not financial advice, a recommendation, or a solicitation. No money is staked, no position is taken on your behalf, nothing is bought or sold, and a selection is not a security, a derivative, an investment contract, or any other financial instrument. There is no payout of any kind; the only effect is on placement.

Prices used for settlement are end-of-day closing values sourced from third parties and may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate; no live or intraday prices are provided. We may void a selection — with no effect on placement — where an adjusted price cannot be confirmed or a symbol is halted or delisted during its window. Settlement, windows, benchmarks, seasons, and the effect on placement may change, and nothing here is a promise of any result. You are solely responsible for any real-world trading decision you make; do not treat anything on CASTE as a basis for one.

Your content

You keep ownership of what you post. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt (for formatting and re-encoding), and display it for the purpose of operating and promoting the service. That licence ends when you delete the content, except for copies retained in backups for the period described in the privacy policy.

You are responsible for what you post and confirm you have the rights to post it. Do not post anything unlawful, abusive, harassing, hateful, defamatory, sexually exploitative, deceptive, or infringing; do not impersonate anyone; do not post another person's private information; and do not scrape, spam, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the service or with other users' accounts.

Images are re-encoded on upload. The visual fidelity applied is a function of the account's placement and is permanent for a given image — the original is discarded and cannot be restored later.

Connected accounts

Connecting an account authorises us to read the limited profile and post data described in the privacy policy, and those signals contribute to your placement. You can disconnect at any time, subject to retaining a way to sign in.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or close an account, void an assessment result, or remove content where these terms are broken or where we reasonably need to protect the service or its users. You may close your account at any time by writing to privacy@caste.social.

Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any assessment result or placement is accurate.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, goodwill, or reputation. Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or USD 100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that applies to you, the exclusions and limits above apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Indemnity

You will indemnify us against claims, damages, and reasonable costs arising from your content, your use of the service, or your breach of these terms.

Changes

We may update these terms. We will update the date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use CASTE after that means you accept them.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing here deprives a consumer of the protection of mandatory law in their country of residence.

General

If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. These terms and the privacy policy are the entire agreement between us about the service.
